Newly Pescatarian...

After stuffing my face full of Christmas and New Year dinners In January 2012 I went off meat. It wasn’t like I couldn’t be bothered with it or I wasn’t in the mood for some chicken – I went OFF MEAT! Couldn’t stand the taste or smell - If you know me, then you’ll understand this doesn’t happen to a die-hard steak lover! So for about three months I ate what would be a considered a vegetarian diet, after which time I started craving meat again and went back to my normal way of eating.

Fast forward to January 2013, at my local church the Pastor announced that we would all be doing the Daniel Fast for 21 days, the food aspect, in essence, is a heavily restricted vegan diet (You can read more about it here) It was tough, but physically I felt amazing! I had lots of energy, my IBS calmed right down and my skin was glowing!

So after the fast ended, I spent months toying with the idea of becoming vegan, then becoming vegetarian and early on last month I settled with pescatarian. In case you are unaware of what a pescatarian is; it’s a vegetarian diet in addition to seafood. I’ve tried all three for a short time and even up until a week ago I was still convinced that I wanted to be fully vegetarian by the end of the week. After thinking about my reasons why, the one I was most comfortable with is pescatarian.

Vegetable and quinoa stuffed peppers - Yummmm!

I made this decision because, not only did I enjoy the glowing skin and energy during my trial periods; I’ve had problems with my stomach for a few years now (IBS) and although the docs can plough me with as many tablets as I need to keep the cramps at bay – I had to make a decision to put my health and not my taste buds first! I have been enjoying myself trying new foods and have found quite a few recipes that I really like (above is an example) and will share them with you over the coming weeks. And of course I would love you guys to share your favourite recipes with me in the comment section below!
